Soundstorm - Music Visualizer

For my self initiated project I decided to create a music visualizer program and showcase its potential in a book.

(image created by the visualizer using the song Creeps by The Freaks)

After research, I realized that most computer-based visualizers change in an instance, leaving little to no 'marks' from previous parts in a song. I therefore set out with the idea of creating a program that could create an everlasting 'icon' for a song. I decided that all of the shapes, movement and colour generated in the program should be based on the song itself, and avoid any 'random' interventions from the computer. This meant that if the program were fed the same song twice, it would produce exactly the same image both times.

The initial creation of the program left many visual connotations. I realised that the program often generated shapes similar to that of a thunderstorm. The 'soundstorms' were less intense in a calmer song, whilst being comparably more violent in a more intense song. This for allowed me to integrate the beaufort scale (used to measure storm intensity) into the book I created.

Beautiful Connections

The brief of this short project was to create a moving image piece to illustrate the idea of 'Beautiful Connections'.

I decided to focus on the perplexing connections and patterns made by cells at a microscopic level. I based the patterns on various creatures. The abstract approach proved pretty funky. Below are some frames from the original movies, followed by low quality versions that can be watched.

Jellyfish

Bees

Human

Globalization branding project (part 1)

This project became quite possibly one of the hardest briefs I have ever had to tackle, which is grrrreat. The aim was to rebrand the attraction: Future World @ Goonhilly. The current brand is available here:

Future World @ Goonhilly website

A brief background of the site itself is available here:

Goonhilly Satellite Earth Station - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It only takes some very quick glances at the current site to realize that the focus of the existing goonhilly brand is on some crappy new robot as well as BT trying to sell you broadband; and not the reason people visit the site; for its satellites, heritage and plantlife. I therefore set out with the intention of making people want to discover goonhilly, rather than a "Future World" side-attraction. Anyway enough talk.
